Lufia(Working Title) opening scene.

Postby Foomy » Mon May 04, 2009 2:56 am

Ok guys so this is just a rough draft and it's not done yet, but i figured I'd post it up and get some opinions.
--------------------------------------
Black Screen

"Wake up."

"............."

"Rise my brother, The end draws near."

Screen fades in on Arek and mysterious figure lying on the ground.
Mysterious figure stands up.

Mysterious Figure: "Ugh, What's going on? Where am I?"
Arek: "All will be explained in due time."

Screen Fades to black.
Lufia's Theme plays
Screen Fades in on Lufia and Hero.

Lufia: "Honey, I just had the strangest feeling."
Hero: "So did I sweetheart. I fear terrible things are going to happen soon."

Screen Fades to Black.
End Lufia's Theme.
Screen Fades in on Son and Daughter of Lufia.

Grecia: "Did you feel that Marcus?"
Marcus: "Yes Grecia, A dark presence has entered our world. Could this be the Sinistrals returning?"
Grecia: "I hope for the sake of mankind that it isn't."

Sreen Fades to black.
Screen Fades in on Arek and Mysterious Figure.

Arek: "Go now my brother and restore balance to the world."
Mysterious figure: "As you wish, My Lord."

Mysterious figure teleports away.

My critique as a professional: One word...

BLUNT!

But I have to see the actual screens first before I can make a pure judgement.

What exactly do you mean by blunt?

For one thing, nothing goes into any form of detail. It looks like nothing more than dialogue and a "blank screen" for narration.

Also, the three generations look as if they have been crammed into the scene. There isn't any worthy transitions between any of them indicating the generations past let alone the details of when and where.

Overall, the entire scene is blunt. I would understand limited dialogue for cinematography and character action. The three generations and their dialogue looks as if they should be separate scenes themselves. The scenes do not have to be too longer, but they do have to have some level of detail.

PS: Leave the theme songs out of the script. That is suppose to be the director's job.

Id have to agree with u there Darkmaster.....

If there is one thing schools fuse into you its being able to describe everything around u to emerse the person into your atmosphere/vision

I also find everything direct and awkward due to the fact that all the characters magically sense Sinistrals.

In other games there would be the characters doing something else before they knew wtf was going on

Was the intro the first thing you planned?
give me a moment so i can think up a good idea

Alright, I see where your coming from, give me some time to go into more detail.

As far as the the generations go, It's only going to be two generations that are shown in the intro. I also figured since the characters are all of the hero's
bloodline, They'd be able to sense when their arch nemesis is born. And Lufia herself is a sinistral. But like I said, give me some time, I'll fix it.

Do you guys think I should write it out in novel format?

Better idea:

Why not do what Lufia I did and play the first generation (Hero's and Lufia's kids) as a first chapter of the game?

Yea, I suppose that's the best idea. A little nostalgia anyone?

Not bad idea, DM.
Wow, you guys aren't pulling any punches, huh? :P
But then again, this is the development of a game we're talking about. No room for niceties, I guess. ;)
I have to agree though, the original opening scene is a little... simple. Straightforward. But enough about that. I'm curious as to what you'll pull out of your hat next. =)

I like the idea of doing an intro with one generation and then moving on to the main characters...brings back memories of the original. Nostalgia is a powerful thing with fans.

that it is...

though i have a feeling that doing something pretty much the same as the beginning of FoD might not hold very well... but you never know, depends on how its done i suppose... just my view on it... and for some reason my little idea keeps popping up in my head.

I personally would embrace an intro where the player wouldn't understand much of what was going on, until he played a big portion of the game... heavily depending on the story, of course :)

Well, the intro wouldn't be too much. All it would do is just define the story before the main game. The main game's twists and turns would still be in silence. All playing the short early generation would do is just define the back story more if it is done right.

Yup. For people who don't know it, it's something new, and for the Lufia fans, it's a bit of nostalgia. I think it'd work.

Hey Foomy, do you mind if I see if I can do anything with the script you made for the opening? I can't guarantee I'll get anywhere, but do I have your permission or not?
