I imagine how hard it must be- I can't draw at all, let alone pixelart :D Some freedom is given though- we're not bound be color restrictions, I'm using 24 bit colors; should be more than enough in this case. Beats the SNES palet, hehe :)

Though all sprites should more or less be in the same style, I can't help on that topic whatsoever, it's way beyond me how people do things like that. Any and all effort is heavily appreciated though, if you want to give it a try- be it character sprites or background/scenery tiles :)

This is exactly what I was trying to do on LW a few months ago. Of course that failed and I'm not doing it ever again. Afraid my name will butcher your project.

I'm working on a sprite image based off of the Lufia II battle sprites for Lufia Battle Tactics. I was thinking using 32x32 sprites for the normal sprites as well as up to 128x128 for animating sprites at 60 FPS. Maybe I should trim the frames down to around 12-30 for key frame purposes.

I'll try to make a template for you.

That is very nicely done! Though the background could use some work, but since it's a test I'm sure it will look much better :).

If you need any help with character designs whatsoever, or maybe even a storyline, I'm more then willing to help. Feeling the inspiration of making drawings boiling at the moment, so I might post some new stuff today or tomorrow :).

Done with exams, yay \o/.

Haha, love the offers :) But, as it's just me programming, progress is very irregular, and definately slow... so i cannot ask for help until I've come a loooong way :)

Too bad! I'm not lending help to you; I'm giving it to you. Like it or not!

Learn to accept free things. You can always use these resources for other programs. Trust me, I'm a cheapskate, I should know.

You don't have to use it. Besides, its good that we help out each other in the beginning.

Well isn't it nice to have some idea for a story and it's characters. Just creating it atm, so you can use it when the programming is finished in big lines or so, if you know what I mean :).

Haha, I'd love it :) The thing I want to avoid though, is that people get disappointed because it all takes a long time- I've seen that happen too often, and wish not to make the same mistake. But rest assured, I'll do everything I can to implement the efforts and ideas given by the community, even if it takes a long time, without noteable results in the mean time :)

Don't worry...I'm patient. I know that we all have those evils known as "Real Life" and "Creativity Blocks" and "Software Issues" that delay projects we would like to do. And any new Lufia game would be worth the wait for me, since I'd love to play the series again (I'm sufficing until then with copies of other Neverland games, and purposely dragging my Rune Factory 2 file on for awhile so I can make tons of cash).

If I could, I wouldn't mind seeing the base pseudo script. I know the computer does the calculations for you, but sometimes it is wise to calculate the math yourself. Especially when developing battle systems.

And there is a reason why I don't have a demo ready for Lufia Battle Tactics right here and now. I know you're tired of hearing rants about my game and for that I am sorry. But I just started programming the cursor three days ago.

Eventually I will have some form of playable demo with GM7. During that time I was researching GML and revising the outline to Battle Tactics' game play. I had to go back to the drawing board so many times it isn't funny.

Just to warn you, my comrade. Sometimes you may have to revise a part of the game or throw it out. That doesn't mean the game is ruined. Revision is a common challenge to making a detailed game like Lufia. Programming isn't hard if you detail step by step. The challenge is synthesizing them into a masterpiece.

Whether you or anyone knew this on LW, it doesn't matter now. This is something I have learned my self as a game designer in training. I only wish to share this knowledge to the world where game making is becoming scarce.

I do hope you take my words into consideration.

I don't think it's smart to give the C++ code I have at the moment- it's way too incoherent for that, as of yet. And design is revision, I fully agree- I've redone the map system three times already, altered the way objects react to events several times, moved code if I found it at the wrong place, or needed too much expansion... it's not funny, but it's essential, and the backbone of designing :)

Bingo- And as long as you realise this, there's hope yet :)

I cannot give you the C++ code, not yet. What I can do, if you're programming in GM7, is give you the old gamemaker code from my GM lufia attempt. I have no idea if it would help you in any way, but it's your if you want it. It's about five years old, I didn't have a chip of the knowledge, consistency or perseverance I have now... so inevitably, I gave up before I had anything remotely close to a game, hehe. Still, it may help you on your way- I remember that it did have the 5 skills you had in Lufia II, as well as several puzzle elements. Gamemaker was too limited though for my ambition, it's pretty hard to continue devellopment if all resources are inside one file, for example.

Let me know if you want it :)

Implemented instance timers, and a way to get all instances at a certain position- using this, I've managed to create chain explosions (bombs now ignite eachother), and NPC collision. Started working on the arrow skill, and came to the conclusion that I need to revise my map boundary system once more. It's an ungrateful job, I'm telling you :)

EDIT: Done, and how. Took some work, but I'm content- regardless of speed of instances, I can now always check if they have found a collision between its current position and the last one. Handy for those fast arrows, that could easily skip a thin wall without ever touching it, to name something. That caused problems in the old version, but no longer. Arrows now bounce like a charm, including animation on impact, and Maxim doing his shooting animation. Next step I want to do is the speech balloons, which will be a hassle of considerable proportions. I'm going to make it hard on myself, by wanting to alter the color of the text midsentence, adding pauses and delays, being able to differ the border (normal/thought bubble), fading characters, perhaps even moving text such as in Golden Sun (when people are frightened, for example)... going to be fun!

Thanks, but I need suggestions :D What would you like to see in a new Lufia? New skills, puzzle elements, stuff like that. Stuff that I can work on to implement, after which others can design levels, construct puzzles, or create cutscenes as they like :)
