I've been wondering that ever since I got the game. But, seriously, not buying new weapons just because they increase WGT?! Don't bother!

Sinrevi'll probably know what WGT does.

Eh... I just ignore WGT <_<

I long ago lost my instruction manual so cant check there.

You can read the instruction booklet on (text only) and some scanned pages are on

it doesn't seem to say stuff about weight... Or am I blind?

Each member of your party has his or her own set of individual strengths
and weaknesses. Attributes are given a numerical value -- the higher,
the better. They increase as the character's level goes up.

Attack power determines how powerful you are in combat and how much
damage you can inflict on your enemies.

With a high defense power, you will protect yourself better and lose
fewer hit points when struck by an enemy.

If you are strong, you can resist poison and some types of injury. To
strike effective blows, you must have strength.

Your agility will increase as you battle foes and build up experience.
With high agility, you can attack or flee faster.

All of us have some inbred resistance to magic. With a strong magic
resistance, you are immune to certain spells.

The more magic power you have, the more spells you can cast. When
running low, visit an Inn or take a potion to recharge.

The number of hit points you have determines how much injury you can
survive in battle. When you run out, you are helpless.

Intelligence is a necessary characteristic for everyone. Being smart
helps you resist confusion and learn spells.

Ahh, confusion. Believe me, weight effects speed in battle. A good way to test this is with the (currently) strongest monsters, and a light and heavy weapon. Fight with the lighter weapon, then the heavier one. I believe I'm right, but if I happen to be wrong, I happily accept criticizm....just don't be too mean.....(kidding).
.....and I have the power to confront that swell?

I never did find out exactly. As the above poster said, it probably affects the number of turns you receive in battle, but I have no idea how much.

You're better off ignoring it completely; better equipment usually offsets the loss in turns. If you're that concerned, you can always farm Speed Potions.
