I think the bosses were more difficult than the ones in ROTS.

Same with lufia 1.....but from my experience in Lufia 1 & 3 the Sinistrals (cant remember if it was only 2 of them) had that freakin Madness spell that confused all party members and then you had the issue of trying to unconfuse them whilst they attacked themselves

Yeah i had Aima and Dei in the front as well......but used Ruby cos she had some really cool Wave moves
give me a moment so i can think up a good idea

Hmm... This is an interesting discussion, and I'd like to revive it a little bit.

Frankly, while I loved some of the aspects of The Legend Returns, I'd have to say its my LEAST favorite of all four games. (Yes, including Ruins of Lore.) Yurist truly was an absolutely pointless character, and most of the cast barely had any actual "development" in the first place.

However, here's what I hate most of all about the game. The Ancient Cave is fun and all, but that's because it was a unique experience. I think it was asanine the way they came in and took the Ancient Cave and applied it to every single dungeon in the game. TLR isn't a turn-based RPG with puzzles on the side. There are absolutely no puzzles in TLR; instead, its pure dungeon-crawling, and no consistency at all. It was completely and totally boring to me.

The Ancient Cave itself was the exception in this game, but it becomes more of a bore when its exactly like the rest of the dungeons in the game. It was still a great experience, and I like the addition of another 200 floors, plus the Ancient Cave shop, but it simply isn't comparable to the AC of ROTS.

And yes, TLR also has terrible spelling and grammar, not to mention the lousy dialog. I also thought the dialog was great in the others, but it sucked in TLR. This one did have the slight edge in that it was slightly humorous, but I was cringing far more than laughing. The plot was also a bore all the way up until the very end, when it actually started to get good as soon as the plot twist is revealed, but even that didn't intrigue me too much.

So, yeah, I liked TLR, don't get me wrong, but... it really wasn't nearly as good as I had heard from others. And playing Ruins of Lore, I myself find quite a bit of enjoyment in it, because, for one, it actually has puzzles. For two, it has character development, some nice references to Lufia II, and a decent plot. The downers about RoL are how they ruined the Ancient Cave, and also the IP system. But I still do prefer it to TLR.

Lufia II easily wins for me, though, with Lufia 1 in second. I still want them to make a new one, though. Preferably featuring Lufia herself a little more often (yes, I know Lufia is Erim, but the term "Lufia" is only used in the first game; I frankly see Erim as a Sinistral questioning the motives of them and seeking answers, which is how she was portrayed in Lufia II, while in the other two she was also going against the will of the others).

Just my thoughts. Probably won't get much mention, but I do want to try getting a little more activity back here. And frankly, I do think that a new Lufia game will be released eventually; don't think its the end. Hell, some franchises have been revived that haven't been around since the NES era. In this case, its only been 6 years about (RoL was released in 2003, right?).

weren't there others being made but were canceled?

i really wish they'd either put Lufia II on the VC, or remake it for the DS, or just make a whole new Lufia game. (hopefully before i'm 30!)

Leave that to me. Dead license means new opportunity. Trust me, I won't screw it up.

I just noticed that you go say this every time you enter a topic. Don't call me rude, but in a sense it is true. Good job with character!

Anyways, even though this has nothing to do with the translations, I still think they could have done a better job with TLR. Using the new color pallet of the GBC? More like NES. Pokemon Crystal had more color than TLR and its on the same platform. Hell! Even Super Mario Bros had better coloring.

XD And I haven't done a very good job, have I? I haven't been around a lot, either. Only reason I starting coming back here again (though admittedly I have come back every once and a while to check for updates) is because recently we moved and dug into our old consoles and pulling out the SNES. And everybody's started playing Lufia II a lot more not (except me). I continued playing more Lufia: Ruins of Lore, though.

Good point on the palette, DM. It would've been nice for even small bg's, but also definitely larger variety of colors would've been nice.

And yes, there were a number of Lufia games that were canceled. I really would like to see one or more of these picked up. One such idea was about "Maxim's early days" and I thought it was an intriguing idea after thinking it over some more. Tia could easily pop up again, while the rest of the cast would probably be new.

As far as Virtual Console goes, considering RotS' reputation, I'm sure that they're bound to add it to Wii VC fairly soon. FoD could easily pop up their, as well, while the new DSi VC might have TLR or RoL in VC, though probably unlikely the latter (or both) will.

man, if they release it on the VC soon i swear i will play that game for a month straight!

see, i own the game and a SNES but my cart erases my game saves so often then i really couldn't do much, then one day, (a good 4-5 years ago) i had a file (well, all four) with 9 Iris Treasures, a crap load of Blue Chest items, and all within 20hrs. then one day i started it up, and nothing... just a black screen, it took a few tries but i got it working, then the moment of truth... i close my eyes, when i heard the file music i slowly opened only to find all New Game files there... now if i was younger i would have easily threw the game out of the window... but all i did was turn it off, take it out, then put it away, saying "I'm never going to play this again..."

well, a couple years later i heard about Nintendo's new system called Revolution, so i looked into it and it had this Virtual Console thing where it said you'll be able to play old games through it, well the first thing that went through my head my "YES! No more erased games!"

well, here it is 2½ years later and nothing... though i still have faith and when that day comes i'll be one happy guy!

It all depends on Taito's licensing. I read that the Lufia and the Fortress of Doom license is expired here in the US. Because neither Tatio nor Neverland didn't renew it. Lufia now belongs to the public domain and cannot be published unless the license is renewed.

A remake is much more likely than a VC port. I just hope that [F]Atlus doesn't get its grubby greedy hands on it to continue its monopoly of crappy anime RPGs.

Yeah, the colors in TLR were a bore, even the portraits were limited to like two to four colors on them while the sprites were one generic color (not even matching hair or S.F. in all instances). I once got bored and recolored the character portraits (and I think the sprites too) to look closer to their in-game selves...

I loved how Deckard has green hair on the map and battlescreen, yet he has obvious clear blue hair in his portrait...

^ Ugh... that's seriously annoying. I think a few other characters had that, too. At least I thought they did.

Oh! How about Erim? Erim -always- has blue hair, but in this game, she's GREEN! Seriously... What? Her disguise of Iris in Lufia II did have somewhat of green hair, but otherwise, she's always had blue hair. (While Seena has the typical blue color...)

Though, I don't mind the battle system in TLR. It isn't that bad. IP system is pretty decent, better that RoL, but the vast amount of characters definitely isn't necessary. I generally only use a few, with the rest mainly being there for the Wave.

The first time i looked at it it reminded me of the old pokemon red and blue......with all element types the same colour......charcters in lufia TLR appeared to be all blue, green or brown ...(or something like that)
give me a moment so i can think up a good idea

green, blue, and red. Oddly no yellows, despite some having Yellow Waves.

I had the same thing. I didnt use the majority of characters, only had them as wave-boosters. If I recall I used Wade, Deckard, and AIma at the front row (Aima specifically kicks ass). I didnt use randolph at all (maybe the occasional IP move, but I thought he sucked). Basically everyone who joined after deckard I simply didnt use. Ruby, Isaac, etc etc... all fodder as far as I was concerned. Hell I ended up not even using seena once the princess joined.

Though... I admit it might be because I was heavily overpowered. Not with levels, but with items. I got all the sinistral items, and 2 visits to the ancient cave more or less had me use the full outfits for everyone...

I liked TLR but I detest the fact that so many characters were just thrown in for the hell of it.

Didn't Milka and Ruby have yellow coloration on their sprites?
