I'm already regretting not trying him... because the monsters Idura sent me were an absolute walk in the park at 40-something... ah well, there's always the next run :)

Yes, the monsters aren't that hard. However, the next fight against Gades might be harder. :)

By the way, did you recognize the first Gades battle? It's none other than Frue Gades...

Well, I thought that this version of Gades did deserve an epic fight as well. So, when I started to change the ones like Lizard Man and Big Catfish, I was nearly completely sure to use Frue Gades at Gordovan.

The only thing which might have stopped me would be if I just couldn't beat him there. But like Reli said back then... It's just Gades. :D

IIRC I failed to beat him at level 42-44 the first time so I leveled to 51 and did beat him finally. Yeah, that's quite high, I know, but as Gordovan Gades' purpose is to pwn every party which isn't extremely overpowered, I think it's OK that you have to grind a little bit. ^_^

If you beat him, you shouldn't have big problems because of your level until the final Idura fight, I think.

By the way, did you play all of Reli's patches like Doom Zero, Final Daos and so on? If so, you might see some more familiar attacks at the end. :o

I regret it, but I never had the time back then to play those patches, and never really got to it later on. So this is actually the first time I play a heavily modified rom :)

Although I downloaded them way earlier, I also didn't really try them until 1 - 1,5 years ago. But then suddenly the desire to play Lufia was back and I wanted to take these enemies down.

I used a quite strong level 99 party and could beat the likes of Doom Zero and Neo Chaos quite easy. I really had absolutely no problems... until I tried Final Daos. :D

Even being level 99 didn't prevent me to become annihilated in one or two rounds. Well, I survived the first round, but IIRC I couldn't do anything afterwards due to status ailments.

However, I really liked it. I really liked it to finally have a real challenge on the overworld. I remembered that I've read something about ailment protection on GameFAQs, equipment other gear and finally him again.
It was really a great feeling to finally beat him down.

I think it was shortly after that fight when I first posted in Reli's topic. Though I sometimes visited the board, I never was really active before. I really wished I would have started caring about Lufia ROM hacking a few years ago...

Haha, the feeling of finally beating that enemy is a great one indeed- had it a few times with your patch now, and it feels rewarding :) But man, is it hard at times...

Well, I guess I'll boost the regular monsters a little bit as well.

Edit: As the balancing is quite difficult I'll only modify the AC exclusive ones right now.

Ouch, they kick ass!

I believe i was one of the first to battle the first bosses, and damn. Lizard man kicked the crap out of me the first... wel... 15 times?
Then, it was an unpleasant surprise to see Big Catfish heal
Damn!:P
And really... the first 20 times against the Tarantula.. ouch

I said it many months ago, and i will say it again! Good job :D

Time for a little update.

I slightly modified the regular Daos battle so that Daos does use Dark Fry now instead of his ridiculously weak physical attack whenever he fails to cast a spell. Why does a final boss have such a weak attack and so less MP, anyway? However, if he doesn't lose all his MP, the fight will be completely unchanged.

And I changed a few Ancient Cave monsters in Kureji Lufia. Now, the metal dragons and the Dark Summoners are more dangerous. For example they are immune to instant death now.

I'm around level 50 on all characters except for Dekar, still at 37 iirc... and there is no way I can beat, or even survive two rounds, against Gades. The second encounter, the first one you absolutely have to win. I survive the first destruction wave, but then he does it again in the next round, followed by an octostrike... I'm at the point of giving up, to be honest...

Gades has a special pattern there.

He did beat you in round two? You might want to try something else in round 1 then. Watch out, what his checking situation move says.

And I hope you did spent some chips at the casino.

First off, I want to say thank you, Artemis and everyone else that helped out on this patch. :) I just got the urge to play through Lufia 2 again (first played it maybe 10 years ago from the original cartridge), and my first thought was, I should probably figure out what went wrong with the submarine cave palette and try to fix it. My next thought was, y'know, someone's probably already done it. And, sure enough! Not only the more obvious glitches, but also a lot of translation issues and less obvious problems. So, a round of applause to you all!

That being said, I did notice one translation error that still hasn't been fixed: at $284D6D, マッドゴーレム (maddo gooremu) should be translated Mud Golem, not Mad Golem. Again, thanks for all the work you've done! I'm having such a great time playing this game again. :)

Glad you like it. :o

About the Mad Golem: Yes, Mud Golem would make more sense, but the spelling of mad is exactly the same as for example in Mad Horse, so I think it is intended to be Mad Golem.

However, in Kureji Lufia where I changed a few more names due to personal preferences I also changed Mad Golem into Mud Golem.

Well, you can't really judge by that, since there's actually no way in katakana to distinguish between "mud" or "mad"-- either would have to be written マッド [maddo]. Writing ムッド [muddo] would have a sound that rhymes with "put", マド [mado] would sound like the Spanish "gato", and マード [maado] would get translated to "mard". You can't judge by the name, so I choose instead to judge by the fact that the sprite appears to be dripping thick brown stuff, while the Mad Horse looks quite angry. :)

For a similar translation, the カッターウィップ [cattaa wippu] is the Cutter Whip, not the Catter Whip. :)
