Estpolis Denki (Mobile Phone)

Postby SinReVi » Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:52 pm

I was looking for screenshots of Rune Factory 3, but then I also found something about a port of the original Estpolis to cell phones (this is probably going to stay Japan only)

Finally! Some current artwork! Now I can throw some old art styles out of the window. Yes this is a HUGE help indeed.

Also, do you think there's a way to translate the name of the publisher/developer? I'm thinking Square Enix Taito, but who knows if [f]Atlus still has the rights.

Because Japan is the only nation that remembers Estopolis I while the rest of the world only knows Lufia II.

Philippines, or at least one person from there, happens to know Lufia TLR. :D

If there are lots of Japan-exclusive and awesome games out there that haven't been localized, then what chances do mobile games have? :(

Not to mention that Lufia: Ruins of Lore slaughtered the expansion of the fan base. It was at a time where cult classics on the SNES (aka Earthbound and Lufia fans) were finally getting world recognition. Not everyone had internet at the time so they can't download the ROMs of Lufia I & II.

What happened if they didn't have a friend with the original cartridge? They played Lufia: The Legend Returns, liked it but didn't love it, and regretted paying a full $50 for it. Then came Ruins of Lore on a platform with the same, power if not double of the SNES. For those who can never get Lufia TLR bought this game.

America's and the world's first impressions of the handheld Lufia games turned into failure. Thus I believe whoever the publisher may be will never re-release Lufia I & II worldwide because there really isn't an audience anymore.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I say it is time here and now to prove them wrong? Time to revive the forgotten Lufians.

Its improbable to make any Lufia fan game official, but not impossible.

I agree, to some extent :) Pretty much everyone I've heard that played Lufia II (the only one in the series I played myself, thus the only one I showed much interest for) loved it- the problem lies in the fact that not many people seemed to have played it... Even word of a new Lufia could rekindle the interest in the old games, which could benefit the buzz around the new Lufia on its turn... but this is probably wishful thinking on my part...

The Ancient Cave was also Japan only.

I found this mini screenshot of the Ancient Cave version, looks like Maxim, Selan, Guy and Artea have trouble with the jellies on the screen =P

Visual note aside, now I am curious. I wonder how the game would REALLY sound. It might be a cell phone port, but it isn't a full fledged SNES.

I would understand if it was on an i-Phone it would sound almost the same. Even on my Sony Ericson Ms. Pac-Man is missing a few sounds.

I wouldn't put it close if the music sounds like the Genesis. Not that it sounds bad, but still nothing compared to the SNES.

As one who was part of the phone "scene" (I dunno if that term exists, but hey, there's the PSP and DS scenes right? XD) that Japanese Ancient Cave game would've probably been made using Java and used MIDI music and no SFX OR no music and odd SFX. Mobile Java games work like that :?
