About the PAL version of Lufia II (for Super Nintendo)

Postby J.. » Tue Jul 25, 2017 9:05 am

A topic dedicated to the PAL version of Lufia II.

I'd have a few questions about it.

1. Is the Australian version the only PAL version with English in-game texts?

2. I know a few differences between the PAL version(s) and the NTSC-US version:
- Of course, language difference for German, Spanish and Dutch versions
- Title screen renamed ("Lufia II" becomes "Lufia" as the game was renamed in PAL)
- Graphical glitches corrected on the last floor of the ancient cave and in the submarine shrine
- Textual glitch corrected on the equipment screen, avoiding weapon names to be messed up
- lvl 0 glitch corrected
Do you know any other differences? Other glitch corrections or any kind of gameplay re-balancing for instance?

3. Do you know any way to identify genuine copies of the PAL Australian cartridge if I want to buy one?

Thanks for sharing knowlege!

1. There's
Lufia II - Rise of the Sinistrals (E) [!]
I suppose the english release, maybe the same in australia

2. The option bug was fixed, based in the lvl0 glitch I've neved used,
but I dont remember if it was in the japanese version and fixed in america or not.
I talk about a bug in the options that use some people in TAS
for break the game and finish the game in seconds

I think that put the stats over 999 and save/load has other effects,
atleast in the PAL-S version, if you has a character with
1005HP (only showing 999), after load the savegame, the
character has 4/1005HP.
I've heard that in the US version the values return to 999

Up.

The author of this FAQ about Lufia II talks about a PAL Australian version and also about a PAL British version (for instance, search for the word "zidanax", he refers to the British version shortly after).
Do you think a PAL British version might really exist?

The only PAL releases are the Australian, Dutch, German and Spanish versions.
Australia is the only one of these with English screentexts, so it makes sense that a Lufia 2 in a British game store would actually be an imported Australian version. Both Britain and Australia are PAL region.

Ok, thanks SinReVi. I tend to agree with you.
The odd thing is that, when you look for Lufia II roms on the Internet, you find the NTSC ones (US and Jap) but when it comes to PAL you find :
Lufia (Germany)
Lufia (Netherlands)
Lufia (Spain)
Lufia (Europe)
And no mention of the Australian version. Furthermore, when you try them, the "European" is the only (PAL) one with English in-game texts.
Rather strange. Seems like the Australian version has been confused with this so-called "European" version.

Box and manual of my PAL version with English screentexts mentions it's by Nintendo Australia and even the code on the cartridge ends in AUS. So it's definitely an Australian release.
