So, what DIDN'T you like about GoldenSun?

All right, we all already know that the GoldenSun games are some of the best ever created. Hell, they're my absolute favorites. But what, if anything, bugged you about them?

For me, it was the four-djinn summons for Mercury and Mars that made me sad. I mean, for Jupiter you've got THOR, GOD OF THUNDER! And for Venus, you have that kickass apocalypse angel dude that makes the world explode. But for Mercury, there's some kind of... ice shaver? How the hell is that the god of winter? (No, seriously, that's the description for it given in the game.) And Mars makes me saddest of all. The summon is called Meteor, and... it's a rock. A big red rock that falls down really, really slowly to squish your enemies.

...
. . .
IT'S A ROCK!!!

Seriously, A ROCK! That's not cool at all! :(

I'll take the two obvious answers:

1. The brutally long cutscenes
2. Air's Rock

I can't believe I neglected to mention the cutscenes. I suppose that's because the cutscenes are annoying in most RPGs, and I've been kind of numbed to it over the years. But yeah, the cutscenes in GoldenSun are grueling. And all that little twitching they do! Seriously, they're chibi, on a GameBoy screen. It's not like we can see what they're doing in grand detail anyways. We don't need to see jumping, shrugging, rummaging through drawers, et cetera, as all those little twitches that not only look nothing like the actual action but take longer than the action would in the first place!

The fact that the most powerful being in existance was a floating eyeball.

Why that specific cutscene? There are plenty of long ones in the game; that's what it's famous for.

I couldn't pay ANY attention to that cutscene. It was the least interesting cutscene I'remember IMO.

Yeah, the werewolves didn't really have much bearing on the plot. It seemed kind of gratuitous.

something that annoyed me about goldern sun was the damn abilities in the feild thing cause for me I could only get some of the damn things working right, thou I did end up getting pretty far in the game those damn abilities/magic feild things are stupid and another thing is use a summon or stone whatever they were called and the characters magic completely changes so that move you were gonna do next isn't there
The focused mind can pierce through stone

I reject your reality and substitute my own

Man is a little wind that lilts the air,
And passing, leaves no shadow there,
But I, beside him when his days are flown
Take back my own to be my own...

Taking so long during dialogue, using two times the amount of words necessary than what is actually required to convey the idea. It's hardly like Dark Dawn was ever going to be a huge sales success - it should've trusted its audience more to know what it is talking about as most of the players would be the few that had played the early games.

...mind, I came into it not having played the earlier games, but the point stands. It should at least trust its audience to get what it's talking about without needless over-explanation. We're not five. (All that aside, the encyclopedia function may seem ridiculous to some ["It has so many 'unique' terms it actually has its own in-game encyclopedia that can not only be accessed from the menu but during dialogue, too." {not an actual quote but you could easily imagine someone saying that}] but I think it's quite ingenious.)
