Magus's Theme (from Chrono Trigger)

Postby Naminé » Sun Apr 03, 2005 3:36 pm

Best boss battle theme...ever. Just perfectly done.

Anyone else here heard of it?

Best boss battle/character theme from the 16 bit indeed. It's got a really simple melody but it's played so many different ways and backed up so many different ways that it feels different every time.

It was amazing the quality it was for essentially being a side battle that you could possibly never play in depending on if you had Magus join your party.

(it was only played in that battle after the Ocean Palace, right?)

Twice: Battling Magus at his castle, and encountering him after the Undersea Palace. (The music starts before battling him, so you still hear it even if you get him to join the party.)

Personally I didn't like Chrono Trigger that much but I loved the sequel Chrono Cross.

I actually learned that quite a bit of Chrono Cross' music actually comes from the never-before-seen-in-the-US game known as Radical Dreamers, and that there are a lot of references to RD in Chrono Cross.

-Serge and Kid are both characters in RD
-Early in CC, you find yourself infiltrating Viper Manor and looking for the Frozen Flame. You're doing the exact same thing in RD
-CC's battle theme and Viper Manor theme come right of out RD

Sounds like CC is a quasi-remake to RD, then.

Wait are you saying that RD is the same exact thing except 2d graphics and a few other things were different? That means there's Lynx and Viper also well I don't want to spoil anything so im not going any further.

"Quasi-remake" means that some of the motifs from RD were carried over to CC (since only Japan got RD). Borrows some of the themes, but not a "true" remake of RD.

Yep. It was only released in Japan.
