*facepalm* Curse of the Sinistrals?

AND they kept Lufia in it's title?

I demand production details of this game's sequel immediately!

Ah... game logic

"monsters tend to have keys in situations like these"

the logical person in me always wants to go "WHY EXACTLY IS THAT?!". But after FF7 and FF8 I no longer do that ._.

My question is what the hell is Lufia if there's no sequel?

Why do I still care about continuity and cannon?

*cheers*

was about to do some research myself to see what's been going on about it. good thing i came here first eh? :)

but yeah, figures they are going to use "Luifa" in the title... Curse of the Sinistrals, Rise of the Sinistrals... hm... not much of a difference. lol

so this is 'chronically' the first Lufia game... maybe they're planning to re-make the 'first' one as well?

I hadn't actually thought about that, but that would be pretty neat! I know some people aren't too thrilled about the redesign or Square-Enix having a hand in things, but I don't mind myself. The gameplay looks like it'll be really good, and it would be awesome to have another game lined up. :D

People say that the ending of Lufia DS looks like a set-up for a sequel.

possible spoiler?

I don't know which ending they're talking about, there is also an alternate ending and I don't know Japanese.

spoiler

The "normal" ending is closer to the original Lufia II ending, but the alternate ending involves Erim, and both endings have a scene with Arek after the credits.

WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS POTENTIAL SPOILERS (or at least rampant conjecture) FOR LUFIA: CURSE OF THE SINISTRALS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Hmm. I watched the YouTube feed of both endings. I admit my Japanese is pretty bad, but I was able to glean a few things from them.

The alternate ending seems to involve Erim sacrificing herself to save Maxim and Selan, rather than letting them die as Doom Island crashes into West Land — but this, to me, doesn't seem like it would really suit itself well to a sequel.

Wasn't it said somewhere that as long as Erim lives, the Sinistrals will keep on coming back? If that's true, this ending wouldn't really suit itself to a sequel; not unless they decided to bring in a threat other than the Sinistrals. Unlikely, in my opinion. They're pretty well synonymous with the Lufia series.

At the same time, though, I don't know what everybody's saying. There might be a big shiny clue in the alternate ending that I'm just not seeing because my linguistic skills have gone pear-shaped. :P

On the other hand...

The "true" ending is depressing as all get-out just like it was years ago, but I think that one sets itself up the most for a sequel. I think Lexis says that Doom Island crashes into West Land — and if I'm remembering correctly, West Land is where the first Lufia game takes place.

It's been years since I played, though, and I'm not a hundred percent certain of what exactly Lexis says there at the end, so I could easily be mistaken. I recently replayed the SNES version of Lufia II, so I might be thinking of that...

If that's the case, though, it does set things up nicely for the Sinistrals to start running amuck around the area that the original Lufia game took place in — and, of course, a sequel.

I've heard in a few places that the way Iris is set up now makes for a clearer connection between her and Lufia.

Then again, if we get a "Curse of the Sinistrals II," they'll probably look the same.

Lexis still mentions Westland and Arus (in both endings).
Natsume translated it as Alse in Lufia II

I think he's saying since they renamed Estpolis Biography to Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (due to both the character Lufia and the Fortress of Doom being key elements in what little story TFoD had), I think DarkMaster is wondering what the heck the term "Lufia" is connected to. Estpolis: The Lands cursed by the Gods was based off Estpolis Biography II, so it's not a character's name, and it's not the world's name--that's still "Estpolis."
