From what I hear, it's pretty easy to pick up and play. The stories are usually pretty independant of each other.

None of the Zelda games are really "related" in-game to each other, but the games do follow each other in a timeline (Majora's Mask was the sole exception, being a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time).

Usually the games are like hunderds of years apart, anyways.

So you do not really need to play one game to understand the other.

*agrees with alexia* yea but at the beggining of wind waker they tell about the legend about the hero of time and sometimes in the middle of the game they discuss the hero of time, so i reccomend playing ocarina of time first =)

You in no way shape or form need any previous kowledge of pat zelda games or histroy to play. It's a great game and it's the type that teaches you to do what you need to know as you go. Walkthroughs or a guide book are helpful in spots to make play faster and avoid having to figure certain things of where to find such and such item or what to do next in some points. They also help for puzzles that might annoy you if you don't get how to accomplish them. Play it, it's fun.

To sum it up: It could be a little bit more fun to play OoT first, but it is NOT necissary. (I played WW before OoT)
