Open question for all

Postby Zifanite » Tue Mar 25, 2008 8:46 am

Now that we are in RM2k3 and have mp3s i have a question to ask all. That is, how big is too big? Because of mp3s the game is going to be significantly larger than otherwise. How large is too large for the game?

Midi Version

Postby Dekar The Great » Tue Mar 25, 2008 10:29 am

Yes, the mp3s are making the demo itself come to about 80megabytes, if this is a great concern to anyone, I will release 2 versions of the game, 1. A midi version, with exact gameplay as mp3 version, just lower quality music, and 2. A mp3 version with music created by our very own Maxim6221, and a few other assorted tracks I have found on the internet, if you feel their should be two versions, please post here, thank you!

Personally i'm in favour of a midi version, as opposed to mp3. I find mp3 nicer to listen to however i'm on limited downloads and at the moment it is 80MB.....I'm scared to wonder how big the Full Version (not the demo) will be with mp3s.

I'd say go for the 2 versions.

But If I had to choose, I'd say the midi version. Considering that that was also used for your old nintendo games. The MP3 might take away some nostalgic value.

Considering Nostalgia

Postby Dekar The Great » Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:34 pm

I highly doubt the nostalgia will be lost. There have been numerous other games that still have the feeling of nostalgia even if their music is remixed, or even not present. Consider the game Super Smash Brothers Brawl, it has a plethora of different musical tracks, most of which are remixed, but they(atleast in my opinion) still have the great sound and feel as they did and, they are better quality. The only real issue I see with the mp3 version is the size of it, the songs have been remixed nicely and fit into the game.

Though two versions would be nice, I'd go for the midi version, and keep the file as small as possible.

My personal thoughts, i don't know if anyone agrees with me on this, but i would think for the demo it should be only midi. Only because i don't think i'd want to download 80MB for a demo, however if the demo is a hit perhaps you'd consider downloading something bigger for the final version.

I agree there. Though I'm not sure exactly how much difference it makes. The demo should certainly be in midi. As for the actual game... I stand by my previous statement. [/LOL, GYAKUTEN SAIBAN]

As to how much difference, the difference between midi and mp3 is:

mp3, 80MB
midi 4MB (compressed) 6-8MB uncompressed

Well, that's a large difference. I'd definitely go for midi the first time, at least.

Yes...Mp3 files are quite big, however, I do not wish for these songs to go to waste, as we have been working hard on them. So yes, there will be a midi version and an Mp3 version, however I highly encourage everyone (at one point or another) to listen to the songs present in the Mp3 version because some of the midis can't capture the feel that the Mp3s can. I hope this solves everything, and if there are any questions, please feel free to ask ^_^.

Well, I can certainly appreciate that. If the file size is reasonable, I'll download the mp3 version. :)
