You mean like a MIDI sequencer? Try googling "Anvil Studio".

Music Morpher Gold Edition is really a cool stuff, but it's a bit expensive for me $100. so i'm quite content with my Music Morpher (the normal edition).

The theory stuff can be a tool that allows you to understand how and why music 'works.' That said, there are plenty of musicians out there who know little or nothing about theory and still do fine. For me, theory allows me to make logical music decisions without having to rely on a lot of trial and error.

My quick answer is, if you want to compose music - compose music. Sit down and write it out (I'm assuming you can write out notes/rhythms since you play in band). I was in your shoes many years ago and simply started writing because I wanted to be able to do it.
