Free Lufia Multiplayer Game!

Postby NeoGades » Wed Apr 27, 2005 8:30 am

Here is an early screenshot from a roleplaying game that I am programming. It is based on Lufia, where other players can choose to be human, elf or monster, and (players who are monsters will be able to work their way up to sinistral! eeek!)

It is a free game and will remain free, where hundreds of players can chat, fight, and explore areas simultaneously. The graphics will change when I find artists. If you are willing to help with the game please post on this thread and let me know your messenger name or e-mail in which I can contact you.

Early screenshot preview:

As you can see the interface is only about 1% complete. The actual code behind the game has been worked on for many months by me and is already complete! So don't let the graphics fool you. The release date isn't determined yet but depending on feedback/help I recieve, hopefully 1 month remaining.)

If you're interested in the following, let me know!:
Map Builder == (Use my custom map tool to build towns and dungeons. No programming required.)
Musician == (Make custom music, Sound Effects)
Artist == (Make graphics similiar to Lufia but not exactly, graphics must change for copyright reasons.)
Story Writer == (Someone who write dialogues to bring characters to life!)
Webmaster == (Maintains the website in which people will download and play our game)

This is fantastic news: I will post a link to this thread on the main site.

I could do the Webmaster thing for you: I have access to FilePlanet which is a reliable file host (and includes free stats on file downloads), and I could get the game some good promotion. Lufia World is currently the top result for a "lufia" search in Google, and receives between 200-300 unique visitors a day.

If you need any help with maps, I'd be glad to have a go at that too! :D

Infact, I have an even better idea. If you want to have a mini-site dedicated to the RPG, I could probably host it for you. :)

Like I said at lufia.net:

I might be interested in story writing, but first, I need to know what storyline you want, how the story links to the lufia series, etc.

Nice. It looks like you're using a heavily modified Konfuze installation for this.

It looks like I'll have to opt out, though, due to the limitations for me and the internet (since I really can't install Konfuze's library files on a cafe PC)

Chris - Thanks. I'll keep updates posted on the game through this thread.

Guard Daos - The game to follow some traditional Lufia gameplay, a constant world where humans and monsters are struggling to survive against each other. (Sometimes even forced to help each other!) (Elves of course have their hidden cities where other races can't enter.) But I don't plan to use the actual characters from the Lufia series... maybe their descendents. So the game would have to tie in many years after the Lufia games.

SinReVi- Yay thank you :D

DualBladeAlstadtMilitary - Requirements: I'm creating the game for Windows only. (95, 98, XP, might work on others haven't tested.)

You won't need any addons or libraries other than DirectX 7 or higher.

I'd like to release a demo where people can connect and play with minimum features to get a feel for the game and decide if they want to help with the project.

Would anyone volunteer to run the game's server for just a few days? They will need an IP address that doesn't change, DSL or Cable, WindowsXP, and hopefully at least 1.2GHZ, with 256mb ram.

Anything that works with WinXP will also work with Win2000. Remember, there are three different lines of Windows:

The 16-bit age: Windows 1, 2, 3, 3.1, etc...
The 9x line: Windows 95, 98, ME
The NT line: Windows NT4, 2000, XP

With the exception of Win95 and NT4, if a program is compatible with the latest version along that line, it's compatible for previous versions normally, at least with this type of software.

Neo: Oh, so you're pretty much coding this right from scratch then? Awesome. I can't wait.

For copyright reasons, I have to change the name of the game.
Any suggestions?

Hmm...I might be able to make some maps, etc. I could find music/graphics, if they don't have to be original creations, as well.

Lemme know if you need help in those departments still.
