Forum Ad

Postby Chris » Mon Sep 05, 2005 9:46 pm

Just wondering - is anybody finding the new forum ad a bit intrusive, or whatever? According to ad requirements on the new hosting platform I need to run a leaderboard, skyscraper, or medrect ad. The medrect ad seemed to fit in the best. I know the logo has gone, but I'm going to put some sort of little banner up in the top right area instead.

At least it's better than the other ad that was on the right.

I dunno. It's fairly big and it looks kinda intrusive to me. I know an ad like that will be the cause of a lot of redesigns over the planet network.

Hmm. The leaderboard just looked completely out of place, and well, the skyscaper made the screen too small. It won't look so big once I put the new logo up in the top right to pad out the whitespace.

Why is the ad there anyway? I cant imagine they pay you for advertisng on a forum with less than 300 members.

They don't. It's GameSpy's way of having you "pay" for hosting; By advertising for them.

When you think of how many hosted sites there are, ad impressions can get quite high. Also, even a small forum can generate several page views.

Speaking of stats, check out: http://lufia.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/webalizer/

It only updates every 24 hours, and as the site just got launched at this location today, it will probably be more meaningful tomorrow or Sunday.

Those stats somewhat reflect what I get at TAC sometimes. I usually get over 100 visits more often, though. I must admit that I haven't checked my stats in quite a while.

Those averages for September are a little unreliable, as the stats program was running before the site was re-opened. Before Friday all it was counting were visits to the forum. :)

I'm trying out a different ad. Is this any better? I think it loads more quickly. :)

the placement seems a bit off, but it works. I noticed the faster load times too.

Even faster loading times for me, since I can disable it! ;)
