Review of the New Soundtrack

Postby PsiCop » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:57 pm

About an hour ago, I got a knock on my door. It was the post lady, needing me to sign for a package. I immediately knew what it was. I opened it up and popped the first disc in. I heard the tunes from Lufia 1 start to resonate from my speakers, and let me say, it was quite cool. It brought about a strong feeling of nostalgia.

First off, the soundtrack is 4 discs. The first disc has all of the Lufia 1 music (and I do mean ALL), as well as some Lufia 2 music. The second disc is the rest of the Lufia 2 sountrack. Discs 3 and 4 are the complete soundtrack from Lufia: The Legend Returns. They even included really obscure music themes, such as the 8-second clip that plays when you sleep at an Inn in Lufia 1. The music is "remastered," but they only increased the sound quality to stereo and CD quality (like 192 KHz I think?). The music is exactly as you remember it on the games. The sound quality for the sythesizers is as just good as you can get it.

In addition, there are 6 unused tracks from Lufia: The Legend Returns, as well as 2 bonus tracks on the 4th disc. The 6 unused tracks sound like the rest of the music from the lovable Gameboy Color iteration of the series. However, the 2 bonus tracks are quite different. The first one is a brand new orchestrated theme that was never used. It sounds really cool, like it could be the main title theme for a new Lufia game or something. The second bonus track is a rock and roll version of the Lufia 2 Sinistral Battle Theme. It mixes in some orchestral elements as well. The 2 bonus tracks are very high quality, like you'd hear on a modern console Lufia game (It's fun to dream about it).

The Soundtrack comes in a 4-CD case. There's an insert with what appears to be notes and commentaries on certain tracks, but it's all in Japanese. There's also a page of stickers that has stickers of the logos for the first 3 Estpolis games, as well as two Lufia characters. The stickers are a little small in size, but it was a nice little addition.

In all, I was impressed. If you're willing to spend a bit of money for a comprehensive soundtrack set of the first 3 Lufia games, then this is definitely for you. I also hope you choose to help out by showing continued fan interest in the Lufia series, so they may decide to make a new one. And yes, they do take foreign currency and orders.

SSH remix? I'm not familiar. I suppose it's possible. Does someone have a link so I can compare?

I'm trying to upload it onto my Putfile but they're undergoing maintenance right now.

On another note, how did we both manage to double post?

They sound similar, but they're different tracks from one another. Its sound is kinda along the lines of that one.

BTW, I dunno why we double posted. I didn't click submit twice. Maybe there was maintenance or something.

How long did it take to ship for you? I just wanted to know because I paid the most amount on the shipping.

I also paid for the most expensive shipping. Took a few days to get to me in the US.

How many times do each of the songs loop over?

It'll play through the entire song once, then it'll start over and play from the beginning again as the volume goes slowly down. All have the full loop without any volume cutting out.

One loop? That's odd. Most soundtracks have the songs loop over twice minimum. Then again, this isn't an official soundtrack, is it?

1 loop is good enough for me. I can just re-edit it in Acid anyways if need be.

However, the 2 bonus tracks are quite different. The first one is a brand new orchestrated theme that was never used.

The first one is Estpolis I's Main Theme
