Telephone Fear

Postby Guard Daos » Sun Oct 23, 2005 7:43 pm

Does anyone else have this problem? I do. It may sound strange, but whenever I have to phone someone, I get really nervous and try to avoid it. I also don't like being called.

Sounds familiar to anyone?

I get nervious when I call people I don't know. But when I started taking calls for work, when they call me it's not so bad.

I was that way when I was younger. Now I'm like "yeah, just gimmie a call, hun". Honestly, it's the same thing as being nervous about talking to people you barely know or don't know. Get over the whole shy thing and just decide to not care... key word there, decide. That's what I did and now I know everybody and I don't care about the phone.

I don't fear telephone calls as much as I used to when I was young, now I just get annoyed by telemarketers

If you do it more, you'll become desensitized. Trust me.

I get pretty nervous when I have to call people I don't know, especially if I'm calling an office or a company. Sometimes I feel a little nervous about calling people I do know, because I don't really do it that much. As for receiving calls, the only thing I'm really worried about is that it might be a telemarketer.

Hi, i have a little fear when it comes to talking on the phone with people i don't know, like if i wanna order food or groceries on the phone some words are hard to come out of my mouth. i somehow have a stuttering problem(since i was a child) but it is much much more worse on the phone(only with people i don't know).

what should i do about it?? i mean i easily ordered pizza on the phone till last year, but suddenly it became like it is now.

Hey there. Heh, it's been a while since I made this topic. I think I've pretty much gotten over it since. Hm... what I always do before calling:
- Decide what you're going to say, and how you're going to say it. That helps prevent getting your words mixed up.
- Try to think up what the other person might reply to what you say. For short calls, this is easier to predict. Then plan what you can respond to that.
- Lastly, a good tip I found on the internet a long time ago, especially helpful when you keep delaying the call: first look up the number you have to dial. Write it down, or at least make sure you've got it at the ready. Then do something else for a minute, take your mind off it. After that, you take the phone and call the number without hesitation. I found it worked for me.

Hope it'll help you. Good luck! :)

I jump up whenever I get called. Its just something I'm not used to (Ive had a cellphone since last year, and I dislike cellphones).

I dont have a problem answering or talking though, but sometimes saying goodbye takes some trouble :S...

If all else fails, just keep close friends on the cell phone but leave the home number for businesses. That way you can ignore the house phone and focus on real friends.
