nope indeed. They became classics for a reason :]. I heavily dislike any sort of gangsta-[c]rap though. I never liked it, and probably never will. Hiphop, or Rhytm and Blues I can handle. But gangsta-rap? Nope, never will.

I'm a big fan of music, and all kinds of it really. My heart goes out to metal though, and with that to Epica. Regardless of your tastes, I ask ten minutes of your time to listen to the following. It's Epica's Consign to Oblivion, curious as to what you guys think of it :)

Apart from metal, I'm a big fan of orchestral film scores, classic music, and Folk music :)

Anthony, that was beautiful. I know Epica but I haven't heard this from them. I intend to be able to compose like that someday...big dreams, eh?

Also, that made me realize that we have something common when it comes to music. Yes, I like all kinds of music, and yes, I love metal the most. Besides also like orchestral music & classical, I love it most when they're combined with metal. In other words, symphonic metal, neo-classical metal and folk metal.

Although the one thing I don't like is screaming vocals. Kinda prevents me from listening to lots of songs with potential to be melodically awesome, but combined with incredible orchestration like that link you gave me, I have no problems. :D

To contribute to the thread, here are songs I like of different genres:

Machinae Supremacy - Dark City
-Forever will be my favorite band. You might have problems with the vocalist, but you get used to it. SID Metal.

Dark Moor - Silver Lake
-My 2nd favorite band. Symphonic power metal. Never heard of it? Well now's a good time. ^^

Helloween - Hey Lord!
-The origin of power metal. And so, they have plenty more where that came from. Plenty.

Elvenking - The Wanderer
-Folk metal in its best form, in my opinion.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Sonata In D Major For Two Pianos
-Ha, non-metal! But still, damn, check this beautiful dual-piano classic by Mozart himself. Performed by a popular piano duet.

Klaus Badelt - Pirates Of The Carribean (Suite)
-Yes, this guy. The composer of the famous PotC main theme. Hans Zimmer, as awesome as he is for handling PotC 2 & 3, didn't make that. =)

Screaming vocals, though I like them, can in fact bring more power to a song, especially when complemented by clean vocals such as with Epica's Simone. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of bands out there that sound like mindless bashing and deathgorgles to my ears, but there's mroe than enough bands that know how to put grunts and screams to good effect :)

By the by, you may or may not like Equilibrium; they have screams, but you should check out this song in particular; all clean music, and over 16 minutes long:

Part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icz4FZcU ... re=related
Part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icz4FZcU ... re=related

If you liked Epica's song I linked, you should also check out their latest album; it features Epiifications(tm :D) of some classic and score music, among which hall of the mountain king, imperial march, pirates of the carribean, and more. The second cd contains songs that were all written by Epica itself; all live, all with orchestra and choir. Very, very worth it!

Dropkick Murphys are without a doubt my favorite band. Though I do enjoy almost all forms of music.

I like mostly metal (symphonic, death, thrash, etc.) but my tastes run from Helloween to Slayer, Dark Moor, Nightwish, Morbid Angel, Death, etc.

rtnario above me: I like a lot of the bands you put up there. Especially Silver Lake I LOVE THAT SONG. It took me so long to play that on guitar.

Are these supposed to be classic bands?

I do like Linkin Park, Goo Goo Dolls, Meatloaf, Blue and Westlife.
