Ugh, dang... Got passed Tanbel Abandoned Mine. Now I'm having a hard time with Doom Eye on Logismos Temple. Sheesh. This thing's a prick. Admittedly, it took me about ten tries to beat Gades (pretty much entirely using Tia, mind you).

At least I've found a pretty good strength--somehow, Selan only takes 1 damage per hit (must've been the Mystic Stones I put on her) so I've been using her to try and fight this guy, and her R+X is excellent for dealing loads of damage.

The problem is that he keeps on evading me in the latter half and killing the person I'm trying to protect before I can kill him.

Character-wise, so far I actually think Tia's pretty badass. I can always get off huge combos with her and usually avoid taking too much damage by backing away from the enemies. Guy, currently, is my least favorite. He's so slow I can never do anything with him.

Maxim's not bad at all, but as a wise man says in this game, Maxim is well-balanced. I prefer Tia and Selan because they're much faster and have better combos, but if they can't seem to get the job done I switch to Maxim. I only use Guy if I have to smash something.

If you pick up that crate and stand in front of the laser, it will actually do two things: Most importantly, it keeps Iris from getting hit, because she can't actually withstand being in the laser very long. Secondly, it charges the crate. You'll see lightning crackling around it and it makes a "bzzt" sound when you've got enough of a charge. At that point, you can lob it straight at Doom Eye and it'll knock him straight down.

The timing is pretty tricky when he starts rotating faster, but it's possible to nail him that way without ever having to actually attack him. I think it's possible to beat him both ways, but the crate solution seems to be the one that the player's nudged towards more. It's the only way to keep Iris and Alex safe while Doom Eye's playing with lasers.

How I beat Doom Eye was using Tia, buffed up on Crit and Power mystic stones. Fatal Shot is your best friend if you want to get the dragon eggs.

Just finished first play through. Still have to play retry mode but I experienced enough of the game for a review.

I want Lufia II for the 3DS now. Until then, Lufia: Myth of the Moon Goddess will be a substitute for a new Lufia game.

I wonder how sales are doing though.

I finally did beat the game. Tia's easily my favorite character. When facing the final boss (you-know-who), I just switched between Tia and Maxim. Tia's piled down with Critical stones and Maxim, of course, has the only weapon capable of dealing decent damage to him.

I do have a complaint about Doom Island, though... its all straight-forward. It doesn't have the same layout as in EVERY OTHER LUFIA GAME. That's one thing that annoys me.

Otherwise, its all good. Now I'm going to go for the Dragon Eggs... dang... don't know what to expect from this one. That's going to be difficult. When I have a chance I'll probably continue.

Still totally waiting for the (hopefully inevitable) release of Lufia DS. But, since this game just came out this year, I wouldn't expect a sequel for a year or two at least... but I'm hoping we will get one... Though, I do hope its longer than this one, and *maybe* back to turn-based combat...? I wouldn't mind puzzles being played out similar to this game (though technically I wouldn't mind gameplay being the same, either).

REALLY hoping for a new Lufia game on a console. And I mean new. Honestly, when I heard SE had bought out Taito I was so totally waiting for the announcement of a new Lufia game. And it came. A remake, sure, but it came. So maybe they'll actually make a brand new Lufia game, too...

Finally got this game yesterday, and within five minutes got this:

"I am gah-dess, the sinisssstral of destruction!"

Only setback I've had with this game so far. I've been having fun with it.

Oh and... Berty and betty? When did Bart get a sex change?

I know right. That's my first reaction.

Actually, as I recall Bart did have blue hair, so yeah...

What I like most about this is how certain characters with lesser roles in the original have more important roles in this game. Iris is a major example, another one being Tia. Iris did have a recurring role throughout the game before, but this time she sticks with you throughout. Tia left halfway through.

Additionally, though, characters you see early in the game, like Berty and Bart... er, I mean, Betty, appear more frequently. Leon and Thea both have a largely increased role (despite being from different countries...), and even Leefa seems to have a rather nice role, too (though not as big as others). Jaffy, too, appears much more prominently.

Furthermore, I feel that the final boss is far more epic than any past game. For the first time Daos ACTUALLY has his own battle music (although admittedly ripped straight out of Lufia 1, its still epic). Plus, he's frickin' hard compared to the past games. Basically, you just avoid things like Dark Reflector and beat the crap out of him. This time he can slaughter you in one combo.

My main gripes... too short, numerous changes from original (such as the change from medieval to a more modern/steampunk theme). Plenty of characters from original are also absent, including rather major ones such as Hilda. Lack of areas to explore, especially considering the whopping five towns compared to almost 20 in the original.

Oh yeah, and the gameplay. Fun, but I still prefer the original's turn-based action, with all the advanced character equipment that can be used to harness different IP abilities for the characters. IP is still in this game... but it isn't nearly as varied as in Lufia II.

I would definitely like to see a Lufia I remake with this theme, but I would like it to keep closer ties to the original (maybe with more playable characters) and make it longer.

Oh yeah, and I also didn't like how the Sinistrals came up and announced their intentions right off the bat (well, one of them, anyway). I prefer in the other games how they appear gradually, just randomly attacking towns before proclaiming their true intentinos. Plus, "Gah-des?" Wtf?! "Gades" doesn't work?

No, Berty had blue hair and Bart was blond. So their hair colors switched for the re-imagining!

His name, according to the Kana from every game prominently featuring the Sinistrals, is "gadesu." Therefore, the pronunciation of "GAH-dess" is correct. I personally still call him "GAH-dez," with a "zz" noise instead of a "ss" noise, since "GAH-dess" sounds to similar to the word "goddess."
