Names

Postby SinReVi » Mon Feb 13, 2012 9:58 pm

Looking at filenames in Lufia DS through a hex editor. Though I wouldn't call them official romanized names it's still funny to see how they refer to stuff.
The only romanized names I'd call official are the names that were used in the credits. Except for the "Hydekar" part maybe, that just seems like they thought "hey since his name is Dekar in the other language versions of Estpolis, let's write his name as Hydekar since it looks close!" (Heidecker would make more sense)

Character names: (only listing those that are different from their normal english names spellings)

Artea = Both Arty and Artea are used

Dekar = mostly Heidegger
Hydegger
Is also referred as Dekar in some files =P

Erim = Erim and Erine (erim is used in the credits)

Selan = Selena (1 time serena)

Josef = Joseph

Tia = Tear (is Tia in the credits)

Jessy = Jecy (her Japanese DS name is Jessica)

Betty = Gemine (her japanese name is Jamie)

Lisa = Risa

Marie = Maliel (I'd translate her name as Marielle)

Clare = Clea

Thea = Cianna
(I always called her Shiana)

Lexis = Lexus/Lexis

Berty = Jimmy (in the credits his name is spelled as Jimmie)

Rochy = Kaneamal

Jaffy = Jeffrey

Jeros = Ralph/Ralf

Alex = Alek
(I prefer Alec as spelling)

Leefa = Leafa

Karyn = Karen (is named Karyn in the credits)

Daos = Dios

Spellnames:
Furea
Furei
Fureia
Gaiasu
Gaisu
Ria
Rideruto
Rideto
Uomu
Uorudo
Uorumu
Regi
Regio
Region

Delde (okay, it's not a spell in THIS game)
Teser (and neither is Escape)

location names:
Eserikto = Eserict
Gratze = Grasse
Ancient Cave = oldcave
Parcelyte = Parcerite

My list is probably incomplete =p

That might explain why the ugly names like "Uorumu" appeared in the beta translation screen shots.

Wow...and I laugh at some of the name confusion in translations.

Wow...gotta love the L/R thing. The number of misspellings of English words that confuse those two letters since they use the same symbol in Katakana is hilarious.
