Haha, I guess I should have seen that coming :D

I think the discussion I had with darkmaster was to be a very promising one, it was definately on the right track, until it derailed. I'm going to try to think of new, interesting skills, but I'll definately implement the 5 regular ones first, before adding new ones. Well, as I currently look at it anyways, but that gives me some time to think :)

EDIT: Finalised the text engine; 6 different border styles, the ability to change text color midway any sentence, shaking text, characters appearing one by one, with a fade effect if wanted, fixed positioning the frame and arrow depending on the position of the talking character, and optimized a bit to lower the impact on the framerate. Can be used on moving characters as well.

I also started on lifting things, and gotten that to work as well; you can now carry the jar, crates etc. around, and drop them at places where you can normally put them. Not in walls etcetera :D Lifted items lose their 'solid' tag, so that they don't inhibit your movement anymore, and are lifted using a small animation, that took more effort than it's worth in my opinion :D So far, I've only done the animation on the lifting part; when dropping them down, the jar is simply 'warped' to the right position, but I'll fix that later on.

New video up! I should keep quiet about 'finalising' stuff, haha; took quite some work again to rearrange the text engine, but it now actually works as intended; talk to an NPC, and he'll start the dialogue intended for him. No longer just pressing a button to start the dialogue, and still walk around until you press that key again :)

Menu choices coming next, though 'next' might take a while :)

Nice stuff!

Are you planning on using all of the lufia art in your final product, or will you be redrawing everything?

I like the text dialog a lot, great personality to it!

keep up the good work!

Thanks :D Eventually, I want to ask around for help on the sprites; Ideally, I'll replace all of the art by custom graphics, possibly even in a higher resolution... but it's too early for that still, I guess- people have been disappointed in the past, that projects weren't finished or took too long... so for the time being, I'll just use these sprites :)

No problem at all :) Whenever I show a project to my girlfriend all she comments on are the graphics, but the graphics are never what I'm trying to show her. Graphics are like paint on a house, there is no shame in building the house first and painting it later!

Very true, very true :) But indeed, it's one of the biggest pitfalls... it can look okay and work like crap, and people might still be impressed from a video :D But I found that using Lufia II's sprites worked better for me than trying to create my own programmer's art; either get the job done, but this costs less effort :)

Haha :D

Hey, I just created the first song for the game! Tell me what you think... either way, I should be looking for people that are better at this than I am, if I ever want some nice songs...

Sounds good. Is fitting for a dramatic theme.

I like it, but I find it's bit repetitive. If you plan on using 30-60 seconds of it i think it'd be great. If you plan on having it playing longer, you might want to change it up a bit.

anyways, it's just my suggestion - it's certainly better than no music at all!!

Thanks Artemis :)

I agree on the repetivity (is that a word?); as it is now, one 'segment' consists of 4 blocks, and I have copied 4 segments after another. Each time I add an instrument, or add some volume to some of the other instruments, to see which sounds best. I like the increase, but I doubt I can make that sound believable when looping the song over and over again; then you start back at the small beginnings again after the full end of the song. Maybe I should make the normal song, with only the basics, and a reprise?

I don't think you need to make a new song. I'd keep it the same until the 1:05 minute mark. Starting from there I'd make it different for a bit, and then have it come back to the ending of your song which would allow it to loop since it seems like you want a looping song. I find that it starts off good, and then i expect it to "intensify" but it just stays the same.
