Posted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:38 pm Post subject: Time for some Lufia-confessions! |
|
|
I've searched through the forums, I hope I didn't overlooked a similar topic. ._.
To kill some time (gnarf, my Estpolis DS copy isn't here yet x.x), why don't we share some confessions concering Lufia? I guess we all have some very odd/special/interesting anecdotes. ^^
I'll start!
- The only reason I bought Lufia II back then was because I wanted to experience a similar game like Secret of Mana on the SNES
- When I got Lufia (at the age of 7), I was so effing proud, I hold the box with the cadrige in the air, like a trophy :,D (it's kinda amusing that Lufia really is after all these years one of my "treasures" XD)
- I only experienced real-time battles in RPGs (Mystic Quest on the Gameboy and Secret of Mana) back then, so I was really, really upset when I encountered my first blob. I was like "this is nothing like SoM, and why is "B" a cancel-button? D:"
- In the end that game was growing on me and I had to shed a tear looking at the ending.
- On my first playthrough, I thought I have to go through all floors of the ancient cave advance the story, but my brother turned me away from that thought (thanks god x.x)
- I could never beat the ancient cave in Lufia II on my original copy, I fear that my SNES might be broken after dozens of hours playing. ^^°
- On my first playthrough, I completly forgot to equip the Dual Blade.
- My copy of the official player's guide for Lufia is lost.
- My characters in the Acient Cave of Lufia III were in the end better leveled than in my main game. ._.
- I've went once or twice with a custom-made Lufia-T-Shirt to school...and my teacher asked me whether Lufia is a new brand. x_X
- When driving and listening to music, there are always some Lufia-Tracks on my CD
- Although I haven't played that much of The Ruins of Lore, I think that FoD might be really the worst Lufia-game ._. (though I kinda enjoyed the style of it).
- My mother has a CD with Italian songs and I SWEAR IT, one of the ballads shares the melody of the Lufia ending motif. It made me crazy as a child. @_@
- I'm called Sini by my friends in real life because of...do I really have to explain the origin of that nick name? xD
So, go on =D |

Heh, I like that idea!
- I don't actually have a SNES, so I don't own any real copies of Lufia I or II. And I played and completed the rom of TLR before I got myself an actual copy of the game.
- I've never played ROL.
- Every time I played the Ancient Cave to the end, I used Save States....
I'll try and come up with some more later. _________________

-I've never beaten the Ancient Cave without save states.
-I only own Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. I got into Lufia & the Fortress of Doom when I discovered NES and SNES information.
-I didn't get into Lufia: The Legend Returns until last year, and even then it's a ROM.
-I will more than likely never play Lufia: Ruins of Lore, due to the fact that I loathe the art style use for face portraits in that game.
-I'll probably never play Estpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods as I don't own a DS, and I don't forsee having money for one anytime within the next ten years.
That's about it from me. _________________ "Fortune-telling is all about the result. It doesn't matter how you get there." - Seena |

- I only own Lufia II: RIse of the Sinistrals Dutch version
- I got an Idura obsession
- My aunt showed me Lufia [read the dutch title of LufiaII] when i was around 7, and it started when i was... 7...
- I ordered my very own copy from the local game store [second hand]
- Have i mentioned my Idura obsession yet? _________________

(Note, when I say "lufia" in the past, I mean lufia 2. I'm just used to calling it as I bought it here)
- I dont remember my age when I got the game. I'd say around 10 maybe?
- I remember seeing Lufia being advertised in every game shop I visited. They had HUGE stacks at the Bart Smit and Toys 'R Us stores. Big cardboard cutouts of Dekar standing, and Tia sitting in front of Doom Island
- I played the game when my friend wesley bought it. He wanted to sell his old snes games and I begged him to sell me Lufia. I bought it for 40 guilders (about 25 dollars?)
- Before I managed to buy the game from him, he went on a 6 week vacation. For 6 weeks I could only think about playing Lufia, and getting foomy to Master level before fighting Gades
- FIrst time fighting the Doom Island battles, I too forgot to use the Dual Blade (and the Pearl Armor). Won the battles and I never realised I never used the items.
- On the original cartridge I could never beat the ancient cave either. Always got stuck on the 9 iris treasures.
- I fought the Ancient Master twice on the original cartridge. First time around I had no clue there was a time limit. Second time around I was prepared, but I barely "lost" that one by not being able to kill him (I calculated I was about 300dmg off).
- I cried when I finished Lufia for the first time. To this day the ending still has an impact on me.
- I couldn't find Zeppy the first few tries due to the misleading text in the guidebook (it said "you can find zeppy relatively early in the game", which is a bit odd considering he's the last or second last CM you can find).
- I spent my first eggdragons on fruits because I couldnt afford raising all my CM's to their final levels. I couldnt get them to M level either because, aside of foomy, I didn't know how and when.
- I was overjoyed when I realised the EggDragon was a secret boss. Even more overjoyed when I got the Eggsword (the eggring didnt do me much. +999 to everything after beating the hardest boss? Seriously?). Come on, epic IP attack, all-status-inflicting attacks? Fun!
- First time I beat Gordovan Gades I was level 48. On normal mode.
- I forgot to unequip Tia of the Catfish jewel, and Dekar of the Gades Blade when they left the team ¬¬;
- I didn't like the first Lufia, because of the insane random battles, the bland story, the retarded battlesystem (Attack an empty space? Are you kidding me?). Also, the entire story was a disappointment. Until the ending, which I'd rate "moderate".
- I heavily dislike Lufia TLR because of the well.... enormous amount of characters with no backstory or importance to any plot whatsoever (Ruby, Isaac, the guy who just comes in saying "he was my friend, he died, im joining you" and every player goes "who the f*ck is this guy????")
- I still to this day love the Lufia 2 soundtracks of the Doom Island theme, the ending theme, and the Savior theme.
- Of all the games I ever played, Lufia 2 is my favorite game. It's not the greatest game or greatest rpg ever, but it is my favorite. _________________ Gordo Gades defeated in 19 minutes, party lv22, pt1!

I'm not going to troll or white knight for the games because you don't like them. Those are your opinions, and I'll respect that.
However...!
| Quote: | | "he was my friend, he died, im joining you" |
I'd like to point out Artea joined for basically the same reason. "She is my friend, she was kidnapped, I'm joining you," then later, "She was my friend, she died, I'm joining you." _________________ "Fortune-telling is all about the result. It doesn't matter how you get there." - Seena |

- When I was little, I thought the story of Lufia II really happened long ago.
- When I first saw a picture of Jerin in a magazine, I thought she was a boy
- When I saw Artea's battle sprite in the strategy guide (I didn't have him in my party yet) I thought Artea was Dekar with a new haircut.
- When I was little, I wanted to scare my teacher with a giant Gades drawing. (she wasn't scared though =P )
- When I was still in the Ancient Tower, my father told me "Maxim is going to marry that green haired girl after this". Because of that I thought Maxim was going to marry Iris =P
- When I first played TLR, I didn't realize it had randomized dungeons (only when I was in the first tower)
- When I first played Lufia I, I resetted the game somewhere halfway in the fortress of doom. What I thought at that time: "I don't want to start at the ending!"
I played Lufia II before Lufia I, and Lufia II happens to be just called "Lufia" here and I didn't know Lufia I's story was a sequel.
- When Daos said Lufia was Erim, I didn't believe him until Lufia said it herself in the ending.
- When Lufia showed up in Arus in the ending, I thought she was a fake Lufia (before Flake explained things)
- I thought Guard Daos was spelled Quard Daos
- Uh... I tried writing a letter to Guy...
- I can't get my brother *coughcoughBADGUYcough* to finish a Lufia game.
- I used the strategy guide a lot for Lufia II.
- One time, at school, the teacher asked us to write about what you did in holiday. I wrote about my meeting with the Eggdragon, and defeating him =P
- At school, we had to build some kind of mini-ship and we had to name it, I wanted to name it Excerion =P
- The first Lufia related dream I had went like this: I was in the Bart Smit (shop), there was a TV and it showed a movie with Guy in it, he was in the desert =P
- One time (also when I was little), a man and woman were visiting our house to buy something from my father. They saw me playing Lufia and the woman said she was looking for that game and they were interested in buying my Lufia cartridge... Obviously I didn't let them buy my cartridge =P
- I used to take my Lufia strategy guide to a lot of places =P
- I kept pronounced Guy's name wrong for some years, because I didn't really know english. I called him (Dutch pronunciation) Guj. And because of that, Bad Guy (I think he was 4 or 5 years old?) pronounced Guy's name as Gurry and sometimes as Curry. But maybe he doesn't even remember that =P
- Speaking of Bad Guy... He fed my Gadesblade to the Capsule Monsters in Gift mode! All he had to say was: "I can't read yet!" Fortunately, he didn't save =P
- When Dekar showed up right before the ending in Lufia II, I thought he would join Maxim's team and replace the Capsule Monster during the final battles.
- I can't read Japanese but in Lufia DS, there were some scenes that made me teary-eyed.
To be more exact:
| Quote: | Lufia DS/II spoilers
- Maxim + Selan's marriage and their scene after Gades is defeated right before the wedding
- Karyn's death
- Ending related scenes
|
Maybe I'll write some more later, I want to play Lufia DS now =P *almost finished the game in Retry/New Game+ mode* _________________

Alright, here we go! I'm back because I have Lufia confessions too.
-I experienced Lufia II on my friend's SNES, but never played a Lufia game until November of 2008
-Lufia was the first game that made me interested in JRPG's besides Pokemon
-I've played Lufia I before I played Lufia II
-I still think that Lufia I was superior in story while Lufia II was superior in game play
-I never beaten the Ancient Cave in Lufia II, nor will I ever will
-I couldn't beat Lufia II without consulting a walkthrough on GAMEFAQS
-I fell in love with Lufia (literally) until I found out that Erim was married to Guard Daos then I was sulking for days
-I've only found pornographic images of Selan and Tia via Rule 34
-I took down Guard Daos with a level 56 party
-I immediately equipped the Magical Bikini to Selan one year after the wedding (It's the honey moon all over again)
-I never found Lexis useful on Lufia II, kinda glad he's gone on the DS game
-I played TLR through the first two dungeons, but quit because the game was repetitive and annoying
-I played through half of RoL until I realized how many hours I spent grinding with a full party getting 5EXP per character from a level 14 fight with level 11 characters, so I said screw it and never played it until this day
-I've concluded that Lufia series is completely dead, however Estpolis: the Lands Cursed by the Gods is going to be the true successor of the Estpolis series if it makes it outside of Japan
-I believe that Lufia: The Legend Returns will get a remake before Lufia and the Fortress of Doom
-I WILL NOT GET THE JAPANESE VERSION OF ESTPOLIS DS UNLESS IT IS NOT SHOWN AT THIS YEAR'S E3. EVEN THEN I WILL ONLY GET IT IF A TRANSLATION PATCH HAS BEEN RELEASED
-I am no longer a Lufia fanboy because I stuck with the series until it died, I might be an Estpolis fanboy if the DS game is released in the US
-I want to play the Lufia fan games regardless of melodrama I caused; though I know that the makers of those Lufia fan games wish I stopped existing
-The Lufia.net RP was a waste of time, me forum RPing is a waste of time, and I can't RP because I was never meant to RP in the first place
There you have it. Now I vanish once more. Unless of course, mods feel like I need to vanish forever. _________________ ---DarkMaster2101

- Artea has an introduction before the game starts
- Artea provides some story
- Artea is mentioned by name
- Artea is actually useful
- Artea is unique with his fighting style
- Artea has actual text, lines, and character
- Artea first joins to RESCUE his friend, swearing revenge AFTER she dies.
That greenhaired guy I am glad I forgot his name of
- joins to avenge his friend. Prior to that you never see him, hear someone refer to him, and after that you dont ever have to use him, he brings nothing to the story, has no character, and if he wasnt added nothing would be missed.
Big difference . _________________ Gordo Gades defeated in 19 minutes, party lv22, pt1!

-The copy of Lufia I I played was actually my friends' that I borrowed; I used to trade them Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for it for a few months, until my sister got mad and made the next trading session be for Mario All Stars (she wasn't an RPG Player).
-Said friend also got me into Lufia in the first place, telling me everything about the game. I knew Lufia's true identity before even touching the controller for the first time because of her.
-The first time I "played" Lufia, I didn't actually touch a controller. My friend and I were having a sleepover (our sisters were at a birthday party that night so we were hanging out) and we pretended to be the characters. Or, she was the Lufia cast and I took characters from a game called Arcana and matched them up with the Lufia characters to be best friends (i.e. the two heroes, the two best magicians, the two other girls and Aguro got one of the two remaining guys for his buddy).
-Said silly game ended up spawning waaaay too many silly AUs from my childish mind. And made the basis for a universe my Muses inhabit.
-As a kid, I thought Maxim was Hero's grandfather, as we figured "grandparents must be over 100 years old."
-I dressed as Lufia for Halloween when I was in 6th Grade. Well, Lufia as her sprite showed; I had a blue dress, a red collar and my mother tried to spray-paint my dark brown hair purple (which didn't work).
-Some of my Pokemon are named after either the Capsule Monsters race names or regular names (my Pikachu is Blaze...don't really ask how that one came about).
-I cried every time I saw Lufia 2's ending...for more than ten years!
-I've never beaten Master Jelly in the 2nd game because I'm lazy as heck. And I only beat TLR's Ancient Cave with Cheat Codes. _________________

- The only lufia game i have ever played was II
- I never cried of the ending
- I am still not sure whether Maxim and Selan die [who is going to take care of Jeros?]
- I have anIdura obession, but i think i might have mentioned that before
- I never finished the Ancient Cave on the Snes [always got killed around B30]
- The furthest i came into the cave on the snes was B 64, trying not to fight strong enemies
- I only finished Ancient Cave on Emulator with loads of savings.
- Never could beat Erim until i was around 12 [on the snes]
- I actually was beaten once by the two Followers in Tanbel
- Obsession...
Edit:
- Currently in the Ancient Cave, around B 6, found 2 blue chest items on B2, and not using cheats and [trying] to ignore saving
Edit:
- Found Providence at B28, decided to leave at B32, [i am always killed by those squids] and ended up very lucky and cheatless. Three Blue Chest Items and Two Iris Items _________________

you scaredy cat . The only reason I ever leave the AC that soon is because the AC bores me to death if I beat everything.
Oh yes, confession;
- I f*cking hate Gold Dragons, Devils, Air Genies, Frost Genies, and Orkies.
- I never realised the undead ring made attacks unholy, or that "[elemental] rings" actually improved my magic at all to begin with.
- I once, on the actual cartridge, had Camu drop his Camu Rock/Jewel (whatever it was). First and only time this happened, and my friends did not believe me when I said he did. _________________ Gordo Gades defeated in 19 minutes, party lv22, pt1!

-I actually have two Lufia II ringtones on my cellphone. Priphea for if the home phone calls me, the ending theme if my boyfriend calls me.
-When I made my "Great RPG Songbook" (of which I got a ton of BGMs from various games together and wrote lyrics to them, then put the BGMs on a CD so I can sing along), I added 3 songs from Lufia II: The Last Duel, Priphea (it fit better than L1's version of the song for what I wanted) and the ending.
-As a kid, I always assumed all of Lufia's magic was at the same power per level, thus always used Explosion magic since it attacked everyone. Somehow, I think I didn't even realize that the Flash based magic even existed back then. This made me deciding to give Lufia a Pikachu (during my "assign Pokemon to every RPG character for kicks" obsession) pretty ironic. _________________
